The Continetal Crawler: Episode 5

In the first episode of the new season, Michael and Jen find themselves deep within the Oregon wilderness at a place called "Lost Lake".
Determined to once and for all catch his family's dinner, Michael explains several ways of obtaining food from the surrounding area including crabbing, fishing and finally, dutch oven cooking in the fire pit.

Hailed as the "best new show on camping" The Continental Crawler is a video series created by photographer Michael Cogliantry and graphic designer Jen Cogliantry, two ex-New Yorkers new to the Pacific Northwest. Channeling their inner-outdoors-people for the first time in years, they hit the road Lucy and Ricky style in a 1958 travel trailer found on Ebay. Past video episodes and travel photography from the lower 48 states (and the great nation of Canada) on such outdoor subjects as fire-making, cheese-curd tasting and high-altitude cooking can be found here on their blog.

After 4863 miles, we made it to the Pacific Ocean... Now, on to Portland!

ATOMS FOR PEACE - ARCO, IDAHO

You could get lost in a town like this... Or at least learn mural painting!

"An important page in atomic history was written here on July 17, 1955 when the lights of Arco were successfully powered from atomic energy.

Chosen by the Atomic Energy Commission as an experiment in the peaceful use of atomic power, Arco, Idaho became the first town in the free world to be served by electrical energy developed from the atom. The energy for this experiment was produced at the National Reactor Testing Station in the Arco desert southeast of here."

A 1958 Mystery...

Here's another road challenge for those of you who might know more about vintage campers than us.

Here's what we know:
It was made in 1958.
The label on it says EMPIRE made in El Monte, California.
It is 17 feet long. 
It was in Boise, ID until earlier 2008 and brought to New York by the family we bought it from on Ebay.

I cannot find anything online about this brand... I assume they went out of business a long time ago.
Does anyone know what other type of travel trailers they made?
Could it be the last EMPIRE still on the road?!
Some guy at a gas station said they were made by a company called UTILITY but I did not find anything to back that up either.

First one to get it right wins the camper!  Just kidding... ha ha...

Just heard that we're nearly in P-Town!  And that they have hills made of ice cream & sprinkles.

Hot Lava!

Our heads are still reeling from the utterly amazing landscape of Craters of the Moon National Monument... SO worth the drive.
 

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

It boggles the mind, but we are nearly to Portland! Still another 500 miles to go and hopefully the Crawler will stay in one piece until we cross state lines and head towards our new home in PDX.
